The Skatepark in Taghazout: What to Expect

Taghazout Skatepark is an international standard community skatepark in the village of Taghazout located 20 minutes from Agadir—and it's unlike anywhere else you'll skate. Built by skaters for skaters, this spot sits at the intersection of two worlds: a place where local kids hone their craft and visitors come to catch the light bouncing off the Atlantic.

The Story Behind the Park

In 2017, Make Life Skate Life constructed Taghazout Skatepark, which quickly turned into a hub for cultural exchange that creates organic friendships transcending nationality, class, religion and cultural background. Around a hundred volunteers built this one of a kind skatepark in just 3 weeks, with the help of Levi's skateboarding and the support of the local government. This wasn't a corporate project parachuted in from elsewhere—it was built with the community, for the community.

Taghazout Skate provides skateboards and protection gear for children who can't afford their own. That mission remains at the heart of everything the park does.

What You'll Find There

The skatepark features a variety of ramps, bowls, and other obstacles suited for both beginners and experienced skaters. The design incorporates natural colors and materials, blending seamlessly into the surrounding environment. This isn't a sterile concrete jungle—it's built to belong to this landscape.

This skatepark is renowned for its scenic backdrop, with the park overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, offering skaters a unique experience surrounded by beautiful natural landscapes. As you skate, the sound of waves crashing provides the perfect soundtrack.

Getting There & Getting Gear

Follow the main road through Taghazout and follow the walking trail opposite the Anwal Morocco Restaurant. It is indicated by signs and blue arrows. Be prepared for 15 minutes of steep climb, with views to take your mind off it. If the climb isn't your style, by car, you can park at the top, taking a turning off the N1.

Don't have a board? If you don't have your own skateboard, the park offers high-quality skateboard rentals in Taghazout, ideal for both beginners and experienced riders. Combine your rental with skateboarding lessons led by skilled instructors, and you'll be shredding in no time.

The Vibe & Community

Taghazout's skate scene is fueled by a mix of locals, expats, and travelers. It's common to see young kids practicing ollies in narrow alleys or pros carving at the local skatepark. The camaraderie between the skaters – whether kids or adults, locals or blow-ins – is cool to see.

That said, visitors to Taghazout skatepark should remember that it's a community initiative and not a tourist attraction designed purely for a viral Instagram shot. The place now being the go-to sunset spot for travellers, at dusk each night, you can expect the skatepark to be teeming with spectators. Whilst Taghazout skatepark now gets most of its acclaim as a social hub for backpackers and travelling nomads, it primarily serves as a space for the local kids.
